Latin America Emerges as New Blue Ocean for Global EV Charging Piles

2026 01/22

Latin America is becoming a new core growth pole in the global electric vehicle charging pile market, following China, the United States, and Europe. Driven by strengthened policy support, improved market fundamentals, and significant cost advantages, it has become a magnet for global charging pile companies.
Continuous policy incentives have driven market growth. Peru launched its' National Electric Vehicle Strategy 'in 2025, while Brazil's annual sales of new energy vehicles increased by 22%, with over 14800 electric vehicle charging stations installed. Mexico, Chile, and other countries are also strengthening the construction of charging infrastructure. Many Latin American countries offer preferential import taxes, some even zero tariffs, on charging equipment, reducing import costs by 30-50% and creating policy dividend opportunities for foreign trade enterprises.
The combination of market potential and cost advantages enhances its attractiveness. The lower land and labor costs in Latin America (compared to Europe and the United States) support large-scale deployment of charging networks. The high share of renewable energy sources such as hydropower and solar energy has laid a natural foundation for the green charging ecosystem. At present, it is in the cultivation stage, and the regional new energy vehicle market is facing a serious imbalance of vehicle piles. There is a huge gap in public charging networks, especially in urban cores, highways, and tourist routes.
Industry experts suggest adopting the technology route of "traditional charging piles+intelligent management system" to balance costs and efficiency, and combining the light asset business model of "equipment sales+long-term operation and maintenance" to reduce risks. Brazil and Mexico have become priority core markets due to their scale and policy stability, while Chile's advantage in clean energy makes it an ideal choice for comprehensive pilot projects for solar energy storage and charging. Foreign trade enterprises should prioritize local adaptation (such as grid standards, language) and deploy Spanish Portuguese bilingual service systems in advance to seize opportunities in emerging markets.
